Custom Football Uniform Buying Guide for USA Programs
What goes into a full tackle football kit, jerseys, integrated pants, practice gear, fabric weights, sizing over pads, timelines and budgets.
Tackle football is the most demanding uniform order in team sports: the garment has to fit over pads, survive contact, and still look sharp under Friday night lights. Here is how to spec it properly.
What a full football kit includes
- Game jersey, home and away if budget allows.
- Game pant, integrated (integrated pads) or slotted for separate pads.
- Practice jersey, lighter, cheaper, ordered in higher quantity.
- Practice shorts or pants.
- Sideline layer, hooded fleece or quarter zip for late season games.
- Accessories, arm sleeves, gloves, socks, skull caps, towels.
Most programs buy jerseys and game pants first and add layers in later seasons.
Fabric and construction
Game jerseys should run 170–190 GSM with reinforced shoulder and neck construction, because that is where contact concentrates. Look for:
- Double needle stitching at the shoulders and side seams.
- A tapered body so there is no loose fabric for defenders to grab.
- Stretch panels under the arm for range of motion over shoulder pads.
- Sublimated numbers rather than sewn twill if you want zero peeling and lower weight.
Practice jerseys can drop to 140–160 GSM, they are worn far more often and replaced more frequently.
Sizing over pads
This is where most new orders go wrong. A player who wears a men's medium tee does not wear a medium game jersey over shoulder pads. As a rule:
- Game jerseys are sized one step up from street size for linemen and skill players in full pads.
- Measure over the pads, at the chest, with arms down.
- Order a sizing kit if you have never fitted this roster before.
Integrated pants should fit snug, loose pants let pads shift out of position.
Compliance
Check your state association's number height and contrast rules before artwork, and confirm the based on position number ranges your league enforces. We build to your association's spec when you tell us which one applies.
Budget
| Item | Typical per player cost |
|---|---|
| Game jersey | $45–$60 |
| Game pant | $40–$55 |
| Practice jersey | $20–$28 |
| Sideline hoodie | $45–$65 |
A 40-player program ordering game jerseys and pants lands in the lowest pricing tier, which is why combining varsity and JV makes a real difference.
Timeline
Delivery takes 14 to 21 days including shipping after artwork approval. Football orders should be placed by late June for an August camp start, earlier if you need a sizing kit round or board approval.
